The Blessings of Paying Tithing

The Blessings of Paying Tithing

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, said the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Malachi 3: 10).

Sifelani Mananga: I am grateful for this opportunity to share my experiences of the blessing of paying an honest tithe. I am grateful to all those who taught me to understand this commandment. I now realise and reap the fruit of my efforts.

Sifelani Mananga:

I have seen an abundance of blessings in my life and in the lives of those who are near and dear to me. I can trace the origins of these blessings to only one source – obedience to commandments, especially the commandment to pay an honest tithe.

In my immediate family, my wife and I are gainfully employed. My children attend school and they are doing their best. We have most of what we need – a roof over our heads, food on the table, decent clothing and more importantly, we are happy and joyful as a family. Paying an honest tithe has been the catalyst for us to be able to live other commandments with ease. Paying tithing is not about money - it is a matter of faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Paying tithing has helped us increase faith in the Lord and our Heavenly Father.

My extended family too is blessed. My sister-in-law and her family recently joined the LDS Church. She too is making remarkable progress in her personal life. I consider that my blessing because the choices my wife and I made and continue to make, influenced her to want to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of course she used her agency but I have no doubt that the example we set and the blessings of our obedience had an impact. I know that obedience to God’s commandments blesses those close to us.

The windows of heaven continue to open for us…my wife is currently a beneficiary of the Perpetual Education Fund (PEF) and is studying to improve her job opportunities which I know will help us be able to take care of our family’s temporal needs better. I too benefited from the PEF program. One of the requirements to qualify for PEF is to pay an honest tithe.  My wife always encourages me to put the Lord first, especially regarding tithing. Now, it has become part of me to give unto the Lord what is His.

Anne Beck:  When I first joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I was committed to, but a little nervous about paying tithing, but I trusted the promise in Malachi, and paid it. As I planned a trip to the UK I came to a point where, in spite of saving and keeping this commandment, I was still a certain amount short. I prayed about this, reminding the Lord of this promise and asking Him to help me. Two days later a work colleague brought me a message to report to the accounts department to collect a cheque. At first, having already been paid my salary, I questioned this, but I went. As it turned out, the cheque was backpay for a special increase in my ranks salary that I had not expected to be paid out so soon, and was exactly the amount required. After this experience I have always been faithful to this commandment and would encourage all to test this promise. It works!

Greg Burgoyne: The Lord had opened the windows of heaven and showered me with blessings far greater than I had ever expected. As a result, my faith is strengthened in the principle of tithing. (Read his story here.)

Verlene Cooper: Over the years, I have never been left without the comfort of Heavenly Father’s assurance that as we are obedient to the law of tithing, He more than compensates in every aspect of our lives. (Read her story here.)

Wendy Hammond: I stood there in amazement. I must have done something right to deserve such a blessing. I have a testimony that the blessing came from paying our tithing. I know Heavenly Father is watching out for His children and blesses us when we keep His commandments. (Read her story here.)

Marcel Noble: “Because my wife and I obey the commandment to pay our tithing, Heavenly Father has opened the windows of heaven. My wife takes care of our children & our home, and this is the greatest blessing - to have a stay-at-home-mom. All we have today we have received from our Father and we count our blessings. The Lord blessed us in that the medical aid covered all the cost for our daughter’s eye surgery. The Lord provides for our daily bread and our daily breath. Paying tithing is a commandment and by keeping it we are blessed.
