Determined to Improve Herself

Determined to Improve Herself
In 2006, I started a diploma in marketing management. At the time I worked at Ocean Basket as a waitress. The money I made was not enough. In 2007 as I progressed to a second level, things got a bit tougher financially. While still trying to figure things out I heard about PEF in a Relief Society meeting. Soon after that I applied. The application process was not easy at that time.  It was very lengthy and demanding. Eventually my application was a success and so PEF started assisting me from then until I completed my Diploma in 2009.

I continued to work and study at the same time because I needed the money. It was not an easy journey but focus and determination kept me going. I had an end goal in mind at all times, thus it was easy for me to keep going even when it got tough. I had to sacrifice my social life and entertainment but it was all worth it in the end. At the time of my completion in 2009, I had moved from waitressing to working in a call centre.

Following the completion of my diploma, I left the call centre and joined another company. I remained with this company from 2010 to 2012. It was a growth move which saw my salary improve by 42%. I was happy but wanted more and so I decided to upgrade my qualifications from a diploma into a Bachelor’s degree which I completed in 2012. PEF continued to assist me and I am very grateful for the support.

Soon after I completed my degree I left Bunengi for Wits Health Consortium which is where I am currently. With this move, my income doubled. Completing my studies has been very rewarding. I feel very motivated to accomplish more. I am extremely grateful to have a permanent job within a reputable organization and I am working on furthering my education. PEF has opened windows of opportunities for me and I am excited to see what the future holds.

My advice to others is that they seek education as it will afford them with employment opportunities and they will be able to live a sustainable life. You can never go wrong with education. It’s never easy but will all be worth it in the end.
